Where does the R4R money go?

You probably know all about the R4R (Recycle for a Reason) Garage Sale.  Many of you volunteer to make it possible each month. But do you know where the proceeds from the Name-Your-Own-Price donations go? One third of the “profits” go toward budgeted mission items like Conference and nationally supported projects.  And two thirds goes into a fund managed by your Missions Committee to promote targeted mission projects in our church, our community and the world.

Since the inception of the R4R project, UMCC has helped the Chugiak/Eagle River Food Pantry, Love INC, New Day Outreach Mission Community, Birchwood Camp, a community recognition potluck for our volunteer firemen, ShelterBox USA, and will fund Vacation Bible School in 2014. Other projects are being considered as well.

These recipients of our Church mission support are in addition to our longstanding projects like Easter baskets for the Head Start kids, the Bean-A-Fit fundraiser for Beanʼs Cafe, weekly food drives, the Love INC annual garage sale, CCS Christmas baskets  and clothing collection and distribution for the needy in our community.

A snowball can create an avalanche. One idea, a garage sale, evolved into a huge and successful undertaking that matches donors with recipients, yielding a cornucopia of beneficial and charitable outpouring. Interested in the missions work of our church? Come join us! The Committee meets the 3rd Thursday of each month and you are invited.  There are many ways to serve.
