The Homework Club continues to be a much anticipated after school activity for local elementary school students. The capacity has been reached and then some. With 30 students enrolled, volunteers are so busy that they dream of more people stepping forward to work with the kids. The Club currently needs substitutes to work preparing snacks, leading activities in the gym and helping kids with their homework.
The most challenging Homework Club afternoon is on Garage Sale set-up Thursday, just before the second weekend of the month. Without the use of the gym, the children are crammed into every corner of the church. The café area outside the kitchen on the lower level is utilized on these days, as well as the 2nd and the 3rd level for activities. But thanks to our predecessors, the building was erected for just such occasions. Volunteers are stretched to keep their eyes on everyone with children spread over a wider area.
