Stephen Ministry- Going forward through change and grief

The United Methodist Church of Chugiak (UMCC) has experienced some anticipated and unanticipated changes over the last several months. But even anticipated changes are not easy when they challenge our understanding of the world and our place in it.

UMCC had a couple of months to prepare for Pastor Carlo’s transition to District Superintendent and the arrival of Pastor Linda Jean to the church. Even with that amount of time to process the change, the thought was scary to some.

UMCC had no time to prepare for the sudden illness and death of Pastor Linda Jean. To some degree, the entire congregation is now grieving. Even if we didn’t get to know her on a personal level, we are connected by relationships with those who did and now are affected by grief.

During the many transitions, Stephen Ministers have been prepared to listen and care for those who needed a Christian friend. They continue to be available to the congregation on an ongoing basis.

Stephen Ministers are trained, Christian care- givers who will listen without judgment. They will pray with you and for you, laugh with you, cry with you and walk with you as you deal with change and grief. What is said to the assigned Stephen Minister is confidential. If you feel you would benefit from having a Stephen Minister, please contact Sandra Woods at There are also materials available in the Narthex. Please look for the Stephen Ministry sign on the brochure rack.
