PFD opportunities for mission

Every year, residents of Alaska receive a Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) – something unknown in the rest of the country. The 2014 PFD is larger than in recent years and will be distributed in early October. The church Finance Team is inviting congregation members and friends to rejoice in this financial blessing by offering a tithe (10%) of the 2014 PFD to God.  While there are many options for tithing, the Finance Team is offering these suggestions:

  • UMCC Mortgage

All money given to this fund will be applied to the outstanding principle on our building mortgage. Funds will not be applied to the normal monthly payment.  Please mark your check “Mortgage Principle.”

  • UMCOR Disaster Relief – African Ebola Crisis

The United Methodist Church and its partners are responding to the current Ebola outbreak in West Africa. The deadly virus has claimed lives in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nigeria.  The church effort involves treatment, prevention, communication and public education. Please mark your check “UMCOR-Ebola.”

  • Birchwood Camp

Birchwood Camp is raising funds to build a bathroom for newly built Fireweed Hall. Birchwood Camp was an important part of the call to ministry for our former pastor, Linda Jean Myers. If you’d like to support our local United Methodist camp, please mark your check “Birchwood.”

Your PFD tithe will be a blessing for you and for Christ’s ministry in Alaska and beyond.  Your gift can be given at any time and placed in the Sunday offering plate or mailed to UMCC, P.O Box 670909, Chugiak, AK 99567.
