Notes from the Pastor

We have moved from one year to the next, having closed out 2014 and begun the New Year of 2015. I want to thank you for your welcome and support as I joined you in September of last year. I look forward to our remaining months as your intentional interim pastor.

I also look forward each year to the first worship services of the New Year. On the first Sunday of the year we celebrate together in our Lord’s Supper. On the second Sunday, as we remember Jesus baptism we also share in the re-affirmation of our own baptism. This is a wonderful way to begin a New Year, celebrating in the two sacraments of our church.

As we begin 2015 I also want to rejoice in the ministry and the mission of the UMC of Chugiak. Through many changes in the past year nonetheless our congregation continues in significant ministry and mission within and far beyond Chugiak. Thank you also for your faithful financial stewardship throughout the year. We completed 2014 with all fills and financial obligations paid in full, including our Annual Conference apportionments – our United Methodist giving beyond the local church. Additionally a generous offering was given toward Imagine No Malaria on Christmas Eve.

I know that in 2015 this significant ministry and mission of UMCC will continue and grow. As a congregation we will also be looking forward to a new pastoral appointment in the summer. Let us continue to be in prayer for District Superintendent, Carlo Rapanut and Bishop Hagiya as they move forward in this important work. I will continue my ministry with you as we prepare to welcome and begin a new era of ministry with a new pastor.

I look forward to the weeks and months ahead and the ministry that awaits us. The days are now growing longer and maybe finally colder with snow! I must admit, that the mild winter thus far has not bothered me, but I know that many are awaiting a real Alaska winter.

As always, I look forward to worshiping with you each and every Sunday.
