A mission of music

The choir at the United Methodist Church of Chugiak has been in existence for as long as anyone can remember. And its mission has never changed. It’s not for the harmony or cheerfulness of the tunes nor to hi-light the talent of those who sing. Instead, it is meant to present the message of the Gospel in a form that will enhance the written and spoken word. In other words, the choir’s work is a ministry of music.

Besides delivering the message, the very act of practicing to do so provides the members with a time of fellowship and a pick-me-up to get through the week. Comradery and laughter are a common experience on choir practice evenings.

If expressing feelings in song appeals to anyone, consider joining the group on Tuesday nights at 7:15 p.m. All are welcomed to attend and participate in choir group. Generally, practice is done by 8:30 p.m., your heart filled with joy and your burden’s lightened. Terri Schimmack, UMCC’s music director, can answer any questions you may have.
