This summer, the UMC of Chugiak will be adding an evening service on an experimental basis. Upon the recommendation of the Worship Team the UMCC Church Council voted for the trial worship schedule this summer. In addition to the 9:30 a.m. worship service in the sanctuary during the summer season, there will be an additional evening service offered at 7:00 p.m. It is anticipated that this will offer people who may be out of town for the weekend, or for those busy with outdoor activities, an opportunity to worship before returning to work on Monday.
The summer schedule for UMCC begins on Memorial Day weekend and concludes on Labor Day weekend. These two holidays are society’s traditional beginning and ending of the “summer” season. They are also three-day weekends with a Monday holiday. For 2015, we will follow this schedule with 9:30 a.m. worship beginning on May 24 and the final 9:30 a.m. worship on September 6. On these two “bookend” Sundays of the summer, there will ONLY be a service at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.
Beginning on May 31, there will also be a service offered at 7:00 p.m. This is in addition to the 9:30 a.m. morning service. The evening service will continue through August with the final evening service on August 30. Depending upon weather and attendance, the evening service will be in the sanctuary, but may also be at other locations on the UMCC campus. Possibilities include the Community Center and out-of-doors. The location will depend upon weather and the decision of those leading the worship service.
This decision is not made as a permanent change to our summer worship schedule. Following the experience of the summer services, there will be an evaluation of the offering with a decision for 2016 to be made after that evaluation.
As we come quickly to the Sundays of summer 2015, please keep in mind the two worship services (except May 31 and September 6) that will be available for you. No matter which worship service you choose, be sure and worship God this summer, and each and every Sunday!
