This will be my last sharing with you in the Chugiak Crier as I prepare to leave Alaska and end my intentional interim ministry with you. I have been thankful for my time with you, with the Alaska Conference, and with the other clergy serving in our Conference. I have also been thankful to see a bit of the State of Alaska during my ten months here.
During several weeks in May my wife and son and his girlfriend joined me for vacation together. We were able to visit Denali, Seward, and Homer. We concluded our time together with a cruise from Seward to Vancouver. I flew back to Alaska and the others returned to California.
Unfortunately, on the last day of the cruise Debbi missed a step and fell, breaking a bone in her foot. She is not on crutches and the foot is immobilized in an “air cast.” Fortunately friends are able to assist her and she is managing this time of healing, recovery, and waiting. It is hard for me to be far away and not able to offer any physical assistance. Naturally, I am anxious to get home!
Thus, June 21 will be my last Sunday with you. Pastor Tim will be driving to Alaska and he expects to be in Chugiak for the first Sunday in July. He hopes to arrive by July 2 but of course that is a long journey! I invite you to be in prayer for him during these days of transition and as he says farewell to a congregation where he has been the pastor for ten years.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve among and with you at the United Methodist Church of Chugiak. This is a wonderful congregation and I pray God’s richest blessing and guidance as you move forth in the ministry and mission following Jesus Christ. You will most certainly continue in my thoughts and prayers.
