Lost Lake to Primrose backpacking trip

All are welcome to join in a backpacking trip July 3-5, 2015. This year the group will be hiking from south to north, starting at the Lost Lake trail head on the Seward Highway and finishing at the Primrose trail head. This traverse is 15 miles with a total elevation gain of 2,300 feet northbound. Expect to hike 5 – 7 miles a day with the first day being all uphill.

Planned itinerary:

  • Day 1
Depart UMCC at 7:00 a.m., drive vehicles to Primrose trail head and leave vehicles there, carpool to Lost Lake trail head for drop-off, gear up and head out on the trail. Hike the trail 5 – 7 miles to find a nice campsite for the first night.
  • Day 2
Hike to Lost Lake or explore if we are already there. Find a suitable campsite for the second night in the northern alpine area beyond Lost Lake.
  • Day 3
Hike out, stopping to see a scenic waterfall along the way. Drive back to UMCC, returning by 7:00 p.m.

Meals will be planned by the group and carried by all. An optimal tent plan will be arranged and can be carried by those sleeping in it. A required minimum gear list will be provided to all attending. For your enjoyment and the safety of others, do not bring more gear without prior coordination. Ellen Franklin will be our back country leader. She will provide a gear list and coordinate all aspects of the trip with those attending.

A sign-up sheet for this trip is available in the church lobby. For planning purposes, it is important to sign up no later than June 21. Please contact Ellen for any questions.
