Youth Group for 6th – 12th Graders

The Youth Leadership Team for this year will be Kevin Ulrich and Sandra Woods as meeting facilitators, Julie Friedli as the Supreme Bean manager, and Pastor Tim. Geoffrey Woods is serving as “research assistant” and activity coordinator.

Youth group will look a bit different this year. Last spring the youth took several meetings to design the program they want to experience this fall. The program has a mix of Bible study, fun activities, and community service time. Some youth will choose to participate in all of these activities and some will only want to participate in one. Whatever is chosen, it will be designed and delivered to surround them with Christian love and support. Middle school and high school are often difficult years as youth enter new relationships and try new skills. The Youth Leaders are committed to making sure all activities are done in Christ’s love.

The first formal meeting will be Sunday, September 27, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. for a scavenger hunt. Everyone will meet at the church and we will go out in the Chugiak, Eagle River area for the hunt, and return back to UMCC for youth pick up.

Youth group has no current budget line in the church budget, so we rely on the Supreme Bean for our funding. We will be offering barista training for new and experienced youth very soon.

Our regular weekly schedule will begin October 4th. Youth group will meet on Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:30 p.m. We will have snacks, but not a meal.

The 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month will be a Bible study session. We will use a combination of sources to discuss relevant topics in our lives and respond from a Christian perspective.

The 2nd Sunday we will offer a chance to learn or enhance arts, crafts and construction skills. In preparation for a possible mission trip next summer, we will practice basic carpentry skills or even work with concrete. We may explore working with mosaics, painting, and other purely fun endeavors.

The 4th Sunday we will participate in a community service project. Local agencies open to our assistance include the Food Pantry, Love INC, and the Pregnancy Crisis Center.

This year’s program was designed by the youth, for the youth. We look forward to seeing all of our youth participate.
