Changes for Church Council

In that past the Church Council, which is the overall governing body of the United Methodist Church, has met monthly for a ½ hour session preceding individual committee meetings. The council received reports from each working team in the church, and the council discussed and voted on decisions involving the whole church. With such an agenda, the meeting was seldom completed in the time allotted.

To help make sure every agenda item is given due consideration, the new system calls for reports for regular monthly Council meetings be in written form and the council will only discuss church-wide issues. In addition, quarterly 2 hour meetings are planned. As with all monthly Council meetings, these Summit meetings will be open to anyone who wishes to attend. The Summit meetings are now planned for May, August and November, and on the other months of the year, regular meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month.
